Design process – House J5
Project J5 is a materials coordination, lighting planning and small modifications of kitchen layout after the housing company’s initial drawings were ready.
In Finland, even if making a contract with house builder to build a new house, most interior materials can be chose from major home depots and professional kitchen stores. And a small parts of the interior materials can be chose freely from wherever the users prefer, such as wallpaper.
The common situation is too many kinds of construction material with varies of colors and styles, from which users could get really stressed and don’t know what could be the best for them. So, this is a reason why I got this work!
First I started with the interior style analysis and color coordination for the house owners, as always. The result is modern interior style with elegant decorations and a little bit natural elements could fit well for them! The schedule was really tight and quickly we jumped into the kitchen store starting to choose the cabinet materials.
Alright then, Let’s go shopping! First is at Puustelli Oulu, a famous Finnish kitchen manufacturer.
The process went quite well without so much argues. It’s one of my work as well, to avoid unnecessary fight within the family members. Though a lot of products can be chose, but we’ve done everything within an hour, amazing?! Thanks for the trust.
So, the kitchen have been decided as:
- MDF kitchen cabinet doors in white with high gloss surface
- MDF kitchen worktop with beautiful marble look laminate surface
- Black tiles with reflective surface to the back splash
- Natural stone kitchen sink made in Swiss
For the laundry space, matt light grey cabinets with MDF worktop with white tiles to the back splash were the choice. Floor boards have been chosen from K-rauta, a warm light grey laminate floor was husband’s choice. So kitchen was decided by wife, very fair! With a limited budget, I believe they’ve made the best choice. In between our coffee break, 3D drawing was ready.
After another week, we went to K-rauta to choose the tiles for the kitchen back splash, main entrance, guest room, laundry space and sauna. Pearl color tile with horizontal wave lines and gloss looking chose for the shower room accent wall. Horizontal lines make shower room looks wider, light gloss tile surface bright up the space.
It’s a very big highlight for the space and now has been installed already. All the construction workers praise the beautiful looking of the tiles. Owner family are even certain and truly happy with the results. Well done everyone!
The wallpaper, floor and kitchen cabinets will be installed step by step. The step lights for the staircase, which I strongly recommended to the owner family, will be installed as well. Can’t wait any more for the final result!
